Player ratings v Wolves
October 30th, 2010All kinds of issues today, the players looked off the pace and there were some enforced changes. Imho, we should not have started with 2 up front, but many will disagree.
Hart 6 - did ok, not well protected by his defenders.
Micah 4 - back to the poor displays of old. He can't defend against players with good movement, and I'm not sure if that can change with coaching at his age.
Kolo 5 - given a tough time vs Doyle, had to cover for Micah too much.
Kompany 6 - perhaps the best of the defenders, but that's not really saying much.
Boat 5 - defended reasonably well, but offered little going forward.
Yaya 5 - one surging run apart, did little of note. City were outnumbered in the middle of the park, and Yaya doesn't have the speed/legs to make up for that.
Barry 5 - started well, but out-fought by a tenacious Wolves midfield.
Milner 5 - looked one-dimensional, couldn't make any telling contribution.
Silva 7 - the one player who shone for City today. Missed Tevez and his ability to create space.
Balo 4 - started brightly, but faded and should have been withdrawn after 60 minutes. I was surprised at how ineffective he was, but that's down to rust, I hope.
Ade 6.5 - looked quite good at times, nice penalty, but lacks the muscle and drive to lead the line. Should not have been subbed by Mancini.
SUBS
AJ 6 - should have started, but maybe his socializing is holding him back in Mancini's eyes.
Zaba 5 - with De Jong out, I'd have played Zaba as the holding player today. We needed someone in the middle who would pick up Milijas/Edwards, and paid the price.
Jo n/a
Mancini 4 - his worst display for a while. Wrong tactics, wrong line-up, City are not ready for 4-4-2 - Mancini must not succumb to pressure from those who want overly positive football. Keeping Balo on for 90+ minutes was a mistake, as was subbing Ade. Mancini has to be brave and drop the likes of Yaya, Barry, Milner and Richards for the next game, and play a more pragmatic, familiar style.
